"My mother, Kelly Sherwood, is a shining example of the best Naperville has to offer, and a piece of Naperville that is often overlooked. Kelly Sherwood grew up in Schaumburg, attended and graduated from the University of Iowa, and moved to Pennsylvania and Colorado before settling down in Naperville, Illinois with her husband and one-year old daughter. Since that time, she has continued to improve Naperville. She is a hardworking, friendly, and quiet person who does things because they are right and because they will help others. She has been a dedicated volunteer at my schools and theatre organizations, even winning the Indian Prairie School District Volunteer Award. One story I’d like to share in particular is how she uplifted school communities even when her children weren’t a part of them. The improv club was one group that had very little support and usually a low turnout. Kelly noticed this and personally came in every lunch period a week before to help students sell tickets and ran tickets and concessions at each of their shows. Her kindness and compassion doesn’t not stop with the dreams of her daughter and son, it extends to every life she touches. My mom and I have always loved Naper Settlement because it immortalizes stories that might otherwise be forgotten. Kelly Sherwood would be a great addition to HERstory because she is a strong woman who wanted to be a mother and has given her motherly love to everyone in Naperville. She deserves to be remembered."
