"Who is she? She...is a native Napervillian, born and raised. She is an entrepreneur, who operates a business in her hometown. She is a humanitarian who volunteers and sits on the board of a number of philanthropic and community organizations. Her story may be similar to other stories of success and engagement; but it also may not. My nominee is a person in long term recovery from substance abuse. For those unfamiliar, this is someone who on a daily basis perseveres and chooses to make decisions that support her health in mind, body and spirit. My nominee has turned adversity into opportunity. After acquiring a license in the practice of acupuncture, she opened her own business. She is on the board of Path To Recovery Foundation, an organization supporting family members and loved ones of those suffering from addiction. As a Recovery Coach she is an advocate for those choosing sobriety and offers encouragement and guidance. In addition, she is a member of the Naperville Jaycees, and is a former board member of the Naperville Area Humane Society.
Who is she? She gives people like me, hope. She is living proof that recovery is possible; that a person can shed the burden of substance abuse and live a fulfilling life. Not only has she exceeded expectations for herself, she willingly gives back to her community. She is one of the most delightful people you could meet and she personifies the name of her business: Joyful Balance Wellness. She is …..Lauren McLaughlin."
