HERstory Nomination Stephanie Penick

"I have been a friend of Stephanie Penick for over 25 years. And to this day, she never ceases to amaze me with her enthusiasm, creativity, strong work ethic, pride in family, desire to help others, and love of country and community.

Stephanie began her professional career as a copy writer for a Madison Avenue ad agency in Manhattan. From the simple act of decorating birthday cakes for her advertising colleagues, Stephanie’s Creative Cakes business began. Stephanie was fortunate – having a famous clientele base in NYC, was featured in People Magazine, and made multiple appearances on Good Morning America. Stephanie’s final milestone in the cake business culminated with a book, Creative Cakes.

After getting married and having three children, the Penicks' moved to Naperville from New Jersey to be closer to their Midwest family. In the early 90’s, Stephanie was hired at Naper Settlement, working in PR. In 2001, Stephanie’s creative and entrepreneurial spirit – which she attributes to her late father – motivated her to start Positively Naperville, an independent community newspaper printed monthly and digital daily.

Stephanie has been involved with countless Naperville organizations including Naperville Responds For Katrina, the Rotary Club of Naperville Downtown, Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and, more recently, served as the Riverwalk Foundation PresidentAmong the accolades Stephanie has received are the American Legion’s Post 43 Citizen of the Year award and Fair Lady Award, among countless others.

Stephanie’s many achievements have enhanced the lives of those visiting and living in Naperville in innumerable ways. She is very deserving of this nomination."
