Field Watchers+
Year-round • 2.5-hour program • Youth ages 7-10 years (2-5th grades)
Free Program (Funded by the Illinois Soybean Association)
FIELD WATCHERS+ program is for scout groups, 4-H groups, Home School Groups, and non-school groups
Field Watchers will teach you about our local history of agriculture and the importance of emerging technologies in modern agriculture. The goal of the Field Watchers program is to connect 2nd-5th grade students to farmers in Illinois while providing inquiry-based learning and experimentation in agronomy. Students will gain a deep understanding of the components of soil and plant health and connect to Illinois’ agriculture industry by learning the various components of farming. Everyone will become “Field Watchers” learning about soybean plants, virtually connecting to “Field Partner” farmers, and potting a soybean plant. The program continues as students monitor their plants and connect remotely to learn from Field Partner farmers.
During the 2.5-hour, active-learning program, troops will learn about:
• Agronomy
• Agriculture Technologies
• Algorithms
• Coding
• Planting
SNACK - Everyone should have a hearty snack before coming for the program.
Scouting Groups: Badges
Field Watchers+ can help Brownie and Bear Scouts earn coding and agriculture-related badges. For example: Field Watchers+ will help Bear Scouts earn their Fur, Feathers, and Ferns Merit Badge. Brownies can use this program towards their Coding Basics Badge.
