Living History Demonstrations

Step back in time and discover how the people of the past lived, worked, and played in 19th-century Naperville! Whether enjoying a demonstration from the Blacksmith at the forge or challenging your friends and family to a wash bucket race, there is plenty to see and do at Naper Settlement this summer!  

All demonstrations are included in museum admission.

BlacksmithBlacksmith Demonstrations

From the plow to the wagon wheel, from nails to hooks, from cooking implements to tools, the blacksmith produced a wide range of everyday necessities. By the 1880s, ten blacksmiths served Naperville’s 2,000 inhabitants. See a blacksmith at work and learn about this important trade.
