Services
Naper Settlement makes every effort to offer you a variety of accessibility options in which to participate in the museum experience. Two non-motorized wheelchairs are available at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the lobby desk.
Requesting Accommodations
All guests with special needs are encouraged to contact us at 630.420.6010 to make requests for accommodations. Please be sure to allow reasonable planning time, preferably four or more days in advance, so that Naper Settlement staff can make every attempt to ensure an overall successful visit. Every attempt to make reasonable accommodations will be made; however, please be aware that all services may not be available at all times.
Building Access
Many of the historic buildings have ramps and/or lifts to provide access. The Visitor Center features gallery exhibits, accessible restrooms, baby changing facilities and an elevator to the lower level.
Due to the historic nature of the village, some of the buildings have limited accessibility; however, photo tour albums of the second floors of several buildings (including the Murray House, Halfway House, the Log House loft and the Martin Mitchell Mansion) are available upon request for those who are unable to access the buildings or upper floors. During the summer season, costumed interpreters are attentive to providing more personalized information to visitors who may have questions about these areas or the specific photos in the albums.
Assistance
When on-site and accessibility assistance is needed, please go the Pre-Emption House visitor center lobby located at the corner of Aurora Avenue and Webster Street, or ask any Naper Settlement staff member (identified with a name badge) for assistance.
Sign Language
We are happy to accommodate anyone with needs for sign language interpreters, but require at least 30 days notice in order to do so. To request disability accommodations, email Group Tours.
