Naper Dig Objects
Local legend supposed that Joseph Naper’s homestead was located at the southeast corner of Jefferson Avenue and Mill Street in downtown Naperville.
Using written records and the services of a trained archeologist, the Naperville Heritage Society was able to conduct a two season dig on the vacant lot located at the corner of Mill and Jefferson.
Naper’s log cabin, trading post, first frame home, and the foundation of his son Mark’s home were located on the property.
In addition, nearly 25,000 objects were collected during the summers of 2006 and 2007 which helped confirm and tell the story of early Naperville.
