In honor of National Preservation Month and Naperville's month-long celebration of its heritage, Naper Settlement invites you to come learn about our town's rich history. 2-for-the-price-of-1 admission all weekend at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster Street, Naperville, IL. Open Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

May 4 (Sunday) - 3:30 to 5 p.m.: Cemetery Walk
Take a walk through the history of Naperville by visiting the cemetery. Encounter Napervillians from the past as they recount their stories in their own words. RSVP requested

May 8 (Thursday) - 7 p.m.: NHS Historic Structures Plaque Program
Meeting for homeowners of plaqued homes or anyone interested in learning more about the program. In addition to meeting other historic homeowners, the topic of window maintenance and replacement will be discussed. RSVP requested

History Speaks
Lecture Series
Presenting Louisa May Alcott. Ms. Alcott earned international fame as the author of Little Women and other books based her life, including Little Men and Jo's Boys. In this program presented by actress and historian Leslie Goddard, meet the author behind these beloved works. One of four daughters of an intellectual and non-conventional father, she knew Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau as neighbors. Prompted by a hatred of slavery, and a desire to expand women's rights, she volunteered as a nurse during the Civil War. Alcott never married, and dedicated much of her life to writing, education and women's rights. Naper Settlement

Come join Bryan Ogg, Research Associate at Naper Settlement, for a tour of the museum's Research Library and Archives as well as information on how these resources can be utilized to research your family or home. RSVP requested

May 17-18 (Sat-Sun): Civil War Days at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster Street, Naperville, IL. Famous figures roam he grounds as visitors experience firsthand a turbulent time period in our nation's history. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. $9/adults $8/seniors, $6.50 youth
May 22 (Thursday) - 3 p.m.: "One-on-one with the Curator"
Enjoy a special discussion with the curator who designed the exhibition, Curator's Curiosities. Hear about these unique, unusual and interesting objects as well as how and why they were chosen for display. Free with paid admission to Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster Street, Naperville, IL.
May 25 (Sunday) - 3 p.m.: "Celebrating Naperville's Architecture"
Join us for a 30- minute walking tour, highlighting various architectural styles represented in Naperville's neighborhoods just west of the Downtown. Learn about the people, homes and building styles that prevailed from the 1850s through the 1920s. We will meet in the Centennial Beach parking lot on Jackson Avenue at 3 p.m. RSVP requested

May 31 (Saturday) - 3 p.m.: Israel Warner Cemetery Marker Rededication
Held at Big Woods Cemetery, Eola Road, just south of Butterfield Road. Free. Israel Warner was a Revolutionary War patriot who moved to Illinois with his family in the early 1800s. He is buried in Big Woods Cemetery. His grave site is one of only 15 Revolutionary War soldiers located in Northern Illinois. Participating in the ceremony will be the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Fox Valley Genealogical Society and Naper Settlement.
Available throughout May: Interested residents can come to Naper Settlement during normal open hours and pick-up complimentary copies of three architectural walking tours focusing on historic architecture in Naperville. There is a tour of central downtown, as well as the east and west sides of downtown Naperville. The tours are also available in downloadable PDF format >.
